4 Tips For a Better Night's Rest

June 14, 2018

The past few months have been a struggle, especially with falling asleep. Falling into a deep snooze as soon as my head touched the pillow used to be my thing. Now...not so much, but I did create a little routine that has helped my night of rest quite noticeably! In case any of you all are going through the same thing; here you are:

Remember this is a season and a season does not laster forever. If you believe this is forever thing, that is a lie. Don't get stuck in the moment - keep walking through it.

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."

                                                               Psalm 23:4

Note the words "walk through." It doesn't say "stop" or "sit down" instead we must keep walking through the hard times that we are in. It doesn't need to be fast; we don't need to run. We simply need to continue moving.

Diffusing essential oils! 8 drops of lavender and 2 drops of Thieves has been my go-to. Does it magically make me fall asleep? No. But filling my room with a routine scent has been very calming for me!

Interested in the oils I used? I'm currently using Young Living's Products

*You don't have to become a member but I do believe its well worth the money and I was quite the skeptic.

Reading the bible but make it an easy read! Usually my mind is whirring so it can be difficult for me to focus on something for too long. I've been visiting Psalm quite often; my favorites being Psalm 23 & 34. Reading His word reminds me of the truth: He is good, He hears me, and He is with me, always.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
   he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
 Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

 You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

Lastly, pray for others! I used to begin by praying for myself, but I wouldn't know where to start so the conversation would end fairly quickly. Now, if I know of someone going through a tough time, I'll pray for them first. I'll pray for those who don't know Jesus or may be falling away from Him. I don't want any of you reading this thinking I am some amazing selfless human because I most definitely am not! This part of the routine helps me feel much more equip when trying to explain my heart's desires to God.

This routine takes around 10 - 15 minutes but within those minutes I feel my mind has been refreshed from the day's anxieties and frustrations. This routine is what works for me but you may be different. That's ok! What's important is finding the routine that works best for you and implementing it everyday into your life. Give a quick google on why routines are important to see why :)

Till next time,
